If you are wanting to start a saltwater tank, you might be wondering what materials you need in order to get started – after all, the last thing you want is to get your tank all set up, with fish and all, only to find that you are missing something essential! While there are always additions you can (and will want to) make to your saltwater tank, here are the absolute necessities you will need in order to get started.
Tank: Obviously, you need a tank before you can add fish, but the mistake many people make is getting a tank that is too small; while you can have a saltwater tank that is only 30 or so gallons, most fish will require you to have a tank that is at least 75 gallons. Sand: If you have a saltwater tank, sand is the substrate to use, as it is what will make your fish feel most comfortable; do not just buy discount sand, however, make sure you buy live sand that will help to regulate the levels in your water. Rock: Do not buy decorative rock from your local pet store, but instead, buy live rock – this rock will help you to keep coral and anemones and will help you to grow live plants. Heater: The temperature in your saltwater tank will be one of the biggest elements necessary for success, as most saltwater pick are fairly “picky” when it comes to temperature. Filter: If you are going to splurge on any one item, while getting started with your saltwater tank, the filter is the place to do it, as this will be the biggest element in keeping your tank clean and your water to the level where you need it. You will be ready to start up your saltwater tank once you have all these things, and as time passes, you can continue to add to the tank, and can continue to add fish as well!No related posts.
