Attracting Butterflies Around Your House

Those who love attracting in different types of birds to your home, may also enjoy butteflies as well. Those brightly colored insect can be very intertaining and magestic to watch. There is a wide variety of plants you can plant that will attract a wide range of butterflies along with a few other tricks to help keep them around your home.

Common milkweed is an absolute must if you wish to keep monarchs around your yard. They require milkweed for reproducing. The caterpillars spend their lives eating the poisonous milkweed. Those zebra striped catepillars are always a blast to see alone. The monarchs also enjoy bee balm and butterfly bushes. What is great about these flowers is that they can attract in blackswollows, tiger swallowtails, along with others.

Ideally you want to plant a mix of host plants such as milkweed that the butterflies require to reproduce along with plants that are for food. Planting a wide variety of plants is a must and finding different plants that flower at different times is also important for keeping butterflies in your gardens.

If you want to encourage butterflies to live in your garden, it is recommended to add butterfly bushes or even a butterfly house, which make excellent resting spots for them.

Butterflies have no internal temperature regulation so make sure you place the house where it can get lots of sun. They require warmth to live.

Similar to the idea of a humming bird feeder you can also purchase butterfly feeders that you can put special nectar into to give you butterfly a place to land and feed. These feeders can be quite beautiful and ornate on their own!

A final thought is if you wish to have butterflies you should limit the chemicals you use in your gardens and yard. Commercial pestisides can be very detrimental to butterflies health!
