Asking The Question: Is It Possible To Make A Living Playing Music?

There are a lot of people who have a dream of making a living playing music, but one thing most of these people are led to believe is that this is an impossible dream to see come to fruition, and that there is no real way to make a living playing music – but while it is true that the road to making a living playing music can be long and difficult to travel along, it is still possible, especially if you keep a few specific things in mind.

The first thing you will need to do is grow your craft, before you take any other steps; if you dream of making a living playing music, you must realize that thousands of others have this same dream, and in order to be able to rise above your competition, you will need to be able to stand out – as far as skills and cultivation of talent go – and the only way to do this will be for you to play music all the time and continue getting better!

After you have begun to grow your craft (and even as you always continue to do so), you will want to start looking for shows that you can play, ranging from coffee shops to larger venues, and ranging from playing on your own to opening for others; the more often you play shows, the more exposure you will gain for yourself – among fans and other musicians – and the more practice you will get for when the bigger shows start to roll your way.

And in order to truly break into the music industry, the best thing you can do is often to move to a city where you will be able to make more contacts, find more opportunities, and gain more exposure; by moving to a city such as Los Angeles, Nashville, or New York City – playing any opportunity you get, meeting new people, and continuing to work hard and grow your craft – you will put yourself in position to meet that breakthrough when it comes your way.

Early on, making a living playing music is not easy – but it is certainly possible, especially if you stick to these tips!
